I am concerned about my child
Changes in your child’s mood, behaviour, relationships or school life can leave you worried and unsure what to do next. We help parents consider what may be shaping the difficulty, keep the child’s experience in view and identify a thoughtful next step.
You can begin with a conversation about your concerns, even if you are not yet sure what kind of support is needed.
Understanding your child’s experience
There may be several things shaping what is happening, including your child’s age and development, relationships, friendships, school life, health or changes around them. We take time to understand when the difficulty began, when it eases, and what your child may be experiencing. This helps build a fuller picture before deciding what support might help.
How we can help
Your concern is an important place to begin. In a first conversation with a parent, we can explore what you have noticed, what has already been tried, and what you hope might change. Together, we can consider the wider context, your child’s strengths and supportive relationships, and possible next steps.
Your child’s views are treated with care. Adults remain responsible for decisions and arrangements. Children should not be asked to resolve adult concerns or carry messages between them.
Support can begin with parents. Depending on your child’s age, wishes and circumstances, it may continue through parent consultation, family sessions or a meeting with your child. We consider carefully which form of support may be most helpful.
Taking The First Step
You do not need a settled explanation or a clear plan before getting in touch. An initial conversation can help you consider what support may be useful and whether Changes is the right service.
Appointments are available online throughout Ireland, with in-person meetings considered where appropriate.
